about

Recorded in Goonhaüs Studios in Spring of 2011, the first volume of Risking Life and Limbo chronicles a bunch of stuff Seth was thinking about. Topics of inspiration included, but were not limited to: Paris, my obese stoner of a cat and season five of Angel.

This is Seth's first record.

Track Name: Derailed
When the sun catches up to the morning, I’ll be
on a train headed somewhere East
Got no bags to check there’s nothing left
got my harp in tow at least

Someone said what is done is done
there’s no sense fighting fate
But I contest: I know you mean the best
it’ll never be too late

I saw her sittin in the dining car
pouring booze in her coffee cup
I sidled in, said ‘how you been?
Conversation: let’s strike one up'

This train is filled with businessmen
not nowhere folks like me
she said you’re all the same, just the clothes are changed
you both got nowhere good to be

And time will tell me what to think and what I’m doin’ here
and if time don’t know we’ll take it slow and play this one by ear

When the came to a rest she looked distressed
got up to walk away
i took her hand, said ‘listen, ma’am’
there’s something i gotta say

I don’t know what I’m doing here
I’m lonesome and confused
But as long as I’m stuck in this world
I wanna be lost with you

And time will tell me what to think and what I’m doin’ here
and if time don’t know we’ll take it slow and play this one by ear
Track Name: Winifred
She's fighting monsters through the night
but we both know she'd rather be at home with a book
of necromorphs and dark and light
understanding comes from more than just one look

There's a hole in the world
it seems we've oughta known
there's a hole in the world
and now you've gone and left me all alone

They're flying halfway round the world
at frenzied pace to find some miracle cure
I'd give my life and thousands more
if only I could spend just one more night with her

There's a hole in the world
it seems we've oughta known
there's a hole in the world
and now you've gone and left me all alone

Oh, Winifred
you've cursed your curious self
oh, Winifred
should've left that crate on its shelf

There's a hole in the world
it seems we've oughta known
there's a hole in the world
and now you've gone and left me all alone
Track Name: Paris
When we were young / our lives were so much fun
filled up with the notion / we could be anyone
laughin' and playin/in the park in the sunshine
mostly content with/the thought that you were mine

Paris, oh Paris
Don't let me down
Paris, oh Paris
Just another bullshit town

I got on the plane at a quarter past one
if I'd flown the other way I'd be chasin the sun
landed and found some old cab into town
and thought 'this ain't so bad, think i'll just stick around."

Paris, oh Paris
Don't let me down
Paris, oh Paris
Just another bullshit town

I found some new girl from the ol' quatre eme
and said, well, i'm here. i guess i might as well stay
but some things don't change no matter where you might be
It's from the city of lights where that girl left me.

Paris, oh Paris
Don't let me down
Paris, oh Paris
Just another bullshit town
Track Name: The Deeper Well
Well I ain't seen no gulf stream waters
but I swam in those Great Lakes
I even died in the Mississippi
when just the moon was awake

I felt you swimming up beside me
and you grabbed me by my toes
took me back before tomorrow
but to where I don't know

Winter saw the lakes freeze over
cracking spiderwebs of ice
an extra coat to keep you warmer
when just the one won't suffice

And as we crossed that solid river
you held me closer by your side
tightly there to keep your footing
for nothing else could I provide

This all seems too much to swallow
a little more than I could bear
diving into pools so shallow
the deeper well, well it ain't there
the deeper well, well it ain't there

That water stood so deep and stoic
but it could run on such a tear
and now I'm back just three years later
and it's like we were never there
and it's like we were never there

This all seems too much to swallow
a little more than I could bear
diving into pools so shallow
the deeper well, well it ain't there
the deeper well, well it ain't there

This all seems too much to swallow
a little more than I could bear
diving into pools so shallow
the deeper well, well it ain't there
the deeper well, well it ain't there
Track Name: Seth Boyer ft. Zen Armitstead - This Time Around (14th St.)
Saw her walkin' down 14th street
a lily in her hair
flat-soled shoes on the hot concrete
not in a rush to get somewhere

I've been down this road before
I'm not the only one
you've got baggage, I've got mine
it doesn't weigh a ton

Maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around

Saw him walkin' down 14th St.
whistlin' a tune
without a smile it seemed incomplete
on such a sunny afternoon

I've been down this road before
I'm not the only one
you've got baggage, I've got mine
it doesn't weigh a ton

Maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around

What's another lonely evening
I've had my share
what's another year of nights
in such deep despair

Now we're both walkin' down 14th St.
with your hand in mine
now we're together, feels so complete
and everything's just fine

Maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around
maybe this time around
Track Name: Hyperbole
All those things I did wrong
I can't do anymore
They can't be fixed with a song
You shouted 'i love you' and slammed the front door

I'm dying slowly now
If you'll excuse me that small hyperbole

With you gone I'm so lost
not that i knew my way before you
Through the chill and the frost
oh it's winter outside and inside it's cold too

I probably know that you're right
But that don't make me believe it
You say you'll heal, given time
but it's time i don't have, as much as you need it.

I'm dying faster now
If you'll excuse me that small hyperbole
Track Name: Fallout: New Quebec
I never said I'd be there all of the time
I never said I'd do it all
Let bridges burn, yeah I cut plenty of ties
that's why I'm leaving Montreal

I've seen it once before but now I see it all the time
the sullen look of boredom on your face
delaying inevitable fallout, I'm all out of friends
in this place
